The Rain Route

A 28-second two-act film: a little robot crosses a rainy city lane, goes through a stone archway and finds a sunlit courtyard, with titled acts and a score.

The Rain Route follows Milo, a small delivery robot, down a rainy blue-hour lane and through a stone archway in act one, then into a sunlit courtyard where it lowers its umbrella and sits under an olive tree in act two. The Wavemaker agent made it from a short brief and two pictures: Milo with its umbrella, and the courtyard.

Before any shot, the agent made reference pictures of Milo from the front, side and back, of the umbrella open and folded, and of the lane looking both ways, then built every shot from the ones that fit it. That is what keeps Milo, its backpack, the red umbrella, the shops and the archway the same from shot to shot. The download holds the two starting pictures, those reference pictures and the finished film.

How this example was made

  1. Made reference pictures first Milo from the front, side and back, the umbrella open and folded, and the lane in both directions.
  2. Built each shot from them Every still was made from the references that fit its angle and checked at full size before any motion.
  3. Animated the shots Milo walks the lane in the rain, goes through the arch, closes the umbrella in the sun, leans it on the olive tree and sits down.
  4. Scored the two acts One score moves from patient and curious in the rain to warm as the clouds break.
  5. Cut and reviewed Cut to 28 seconds at 1920×1080 with a title card per act, then given a full review of picture, sound and every beat of the brief, and revised where it fell short before delivery.

Real and generated. Generated: Milo, the lane, the courtyard, the motion and the music.
