Share your work: links, reviews and shared originals
Choose between exporting, sharing privately and publishing.

Share a link to one item
- Choose Share. Every Share opens the same Share dialog for that item:
- under an image or video in a conversation, or in a result's More options; - at the top of a conversation, which opens the conversation's latest result; - in the viewer's top bar; - on an item's page (open it from My library); - in My library, with one item selected; - from the command palette, with Share….
- Check What they'll see: the cover, the title and the controls your settings turn on. For a video you can choose the Cover frame and a Start at time. Preview as a guest opens the page as someone who isn't signed in.
- Check Title on the shared page. Your file keeps its name.
- Read the access sentence, for example "Anyone with the link can view · no downloads · no expiry". Choose any bold part to change it: who can open it, whether they can give feedback, downloads (no downloads, a web copy or the original) and expiry.
- Choose Copy link. On a phone, Share… opens your device's share sheet. The first time a link leaves your workspace, Review and agree shows the sharing agreement first.
- Send the link. The preview card shows how it will look when pasted into Messages, Slack or X.
By copying or sending a link, you confirm you have the rights to share it.
More options keeps everything else: a passcode, an exact expiry date, a rich preview when pasted, editable-source download, the description, caption, credit and conversation excerpt, the preview shown for a non-media item, the conversation for change requests, the sites allowed to embed it, Make a separate link, Reset link and Revoke.
When you reopen Share for the same item, it opens the link you made last. Changes are staged until you choose Update link. For a link people already use, you can update it or make a new link with the new settings instead.
- Choose
Open the exact item or result you want to share.
- Set access
Read the access sentence and change what you need.
- Copy
Copy the link; it's created as you copy.
- Manage
Edit, review notes, or revoke from Sharing.
Only the exact version you chose and the text you approved are shared. Your conversation, other takes and private dependencies are not.
Check that it worked
- Choose Preview as a guest to see the page the way a recipient does.
- Open the link in a private window to check what a person who isn't signed in sees.
- Find the link under Links at /app/sharing. Its row shows the audience, expiry, state and permissions.
Sharing needs publish permission, which members, admins and owners have. Viewers can't create or change links: on an item's page they get Copy link instead, which copies the page's address, and its note says why.
Ways to get work out of Wavemaker
| Option | What it does | Who can open it |
|---|---|---|
| Download | Saves the original file to your device. | Only you, until you send it on. |
| Export (Exports page) | Builds a ZIP of exact originals for a destination. | Only you, until you send it on. |
| Share link | A page for one item with the audience and permissions you choose. | The audience you pick. |
| Send the original to a workspace | Gives another Wavemaker workspace read access to one original file. | Signed-in members of that workspace. |
| Publish | A public listing in Discover that others can find and use. | Anyone. |
Generating, saving to the Library and downloading never share anything. Delivering a file in a platform's format, for example a vertical video, prepares it; Wavemaker does not post it for you. See Download results and Publish to Discover.
Audiences
| Audience | Who can open it | Passcode | Embed |
|---|---|---|---|
| This workspace | Members of your workspace, signed in with it as their current workspace. | No | No |
| Specific signed-in people | The registered usernames you list, signed in. Up to 100 people. | No | No |
| Anyone with this link | Anyone holding the link, without signing in. Not listed anywhere. | Optional | Optional |
| Public, searchable link | Anyone. It can appear in search engines and in Public showcases on Discover. | Optional | Optional |
18+ work. A link to anything rated 18+ (a result, an upload or asset you marked 18+, or a link bound to a conversation marked 18+) can't be Public, searchable or embedded. It never shows its title or a preview when the link is pasted, in search engines, in the video sitemap or in Public showcases. Everyone except you must be signed in with Show 18+ material turned on to open it, even with the link, a passcode or a download link. To share 18+ work, turn on Show 18+ material in your settings first. If something you already shared is rated 18+ later, these rules apply to the link straight away.
Removed content. If a file is removed after a legal or safety request, such as a copyright notice or a report of intimate images shared without consent, every link and shared original that shows it stops working at once, for you as well, and it can't be shared again. If the removal is later reversed, the links work again.
New links start as Anyone with this link, with an expiry from your sharing defaults.
Anyone-with-the-link keys
An Anyone with the link address contains a secret key. You can copy it again from Share on any device where you're signed in. If the item shows "Copy on this device only", that link's key is kept only in the browser that made it; Reset link gives it a new key you can copy anywhere, and keeps its views and feedback. Reset also stops the old address straight away, so use it if a link went to the wrong person.
Passcodes
You can protect an anyone-with-the-link or public link with a passcode of 4 to 128 characters. Recipients see "This share is protected. Enter the passcode the owner gave you." After 20 wrong attempts within 15 minutes, the link refuses more tries for a while: "Too many passcode attempts; wait a few minutes and try again". To change a passcode, use Edit permissions and enter a new one; Remove the passcode turns protection off. A public link with a passcode is not listed in Public showcases or shown to search engines.
Embeds
Under Message & attribution, Allowed embed parent origins lists up to 10 websites, one per line, that may embed the item. Each must be an exact https:// origin, such as https://example.com, with no path. Embeds work only for anyone-with-the-link and public links whose media has a supported preview. Copy embed on the link's row copies a sandboxed iframe snippet.
Permissions
| Switch | What recipients get |
|---|---|
| Allow private review comments | A private review form. Recipients can leave timestamped notes only you see. |
| Allow original media downloads | Download original: the exact original file, not a re-encode. |
| Allow exact editable-source download | Download editable source: the source package that made this version. Shown for packages and trained models only. |
The Recipients will see list in the dialog updates as you switch permissions on and off. Downloaded copies can't be recalled, even after you revoke the link.
What a recipient sees
A recipient opens a page at wavemaker.io/s/{id}. The work comes first, on a dark stage at its own shape: a vertical video fills a phone screen, and a square or landscape piece fits the width. Below it are the shared title, By with the attribution you approved, and any description, caption and excerpt. If you chose a start time, the video opens with Starting at 0:42 · Play from start. On a public page a video starts playing muted, with Sound on; other pages wait for Play. Recipients can Copy link, and on a public page Share to X, LinkedIn, WhatsApp or email. When downloads are off, the page asks them to get the file from you. Public and anyone-with-the-link pages without private review show Make your own, which opens Wavemaker, and the line "Made with Wavemaker. You direct. The studio does the rest."; invited and review pages show only a quiet "Shared with Wavemaker". A recipient who is already signed in is recognised straight away.
- With private review on, they can write a note, pin it to a time or a range in seconds or to the Whole piece, and send it with Send private review. They can also choose Request a change in the owner’s review queue or Approve this version. None of these starts any generation.
- A guest types a name of up to 100 characters; it isn't checked, and your review queue marks it Guest · unverified. Signed-in people show as Signed-in reviewer, using their public profile name.
- With downloads on, they see Download original and, where allowed, Download editable source. Each download link lasts five minutes and is checked against the link's current permissions.
- The page header offers Sign in for full access. People on a This workspace or Specific signed-in people link must sign in to open it.
If the link has expired, been revoked or the invitation no longer applies, the recipient sees "This share is unavailable" and is asked to contact the owner. The page looks the same whatever the reason, so it never tells anyone whether a link exists. Someone who is signed in can choose Switch account to try another account. A public page that you revoke stops working for everyone, and search engines are told it is gone.
Anyone can report a shared page from More (•••) › Report this page. Signed-in people choose what is wrong and send the report from the page; it goes to our moderation team with the media, never the link key. Guests choose a form: It shows me, and I didn't agree to it or It uses my copyrighted work, already filled in with the page's address. A public page also offers This shows me without consent directly. If a report is upheld, the page closes for everyone, you included.
Manage links
Open Library tools › Links & private reviews, or go to /app/sharing. The Sharing page has four tabs: Links, Private reviews, Machine download links and Shared originals.
Each link row offers:
- Open recipient view and Copy link while the link is active.
- Edit permissions to change the title, audience, permissions, expiry, passcode or message. Saving creates a new revision of the same link.
- Revoke link, then Confirm link revocation. "Anyone using it loses access immediately. Other links to the same item keep working." Revoking can't be undone; create a new link if you need one.
- Private review queue for that link's notes.
- View stats: views, viewers, plays, completions and downloads, with the last view time. Stats are counts only and never say who viewed.
- Machine download links on anyone-with-the-link shares.
Link states
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Issued | Active. The audience can open it. |
| Expired | Its expiry passed. Nobody can open it. |
| Revoked | You revoked it. Nobody can open it. |
Each link is independent. You can make several links to the same item with different audiences and permissions; revoking one leaves the others working.
Private reviews
The Private reviews tab gathers notes from every link that allows private review. Filter Open or All reviews. Each note shows who wrote it, when, any timestamp, and its state: Open, Change requested or Resolved. Add an optional private reply of up to 5,000 characters and choose Resolve review; Reopen review puts it back in the open list. Resolving needs publish permission; with read-only access you can read reviews but not resolve them.
If you chose Conversation for change requests when you created the link, change requests are tied to that conversation, and the link row offers Open the linked conversation.
Machine download links
Machine download links are direct file links for scripts, ad servers and other tools. They attach to an active Anyone with this link share.
- Open the Machine download links tab, or Machine download links on the link's row.
- Choose a File action: Selected preview, Original media download (when downloads are allowed) or Editable source (when source download is allowed).
- Optionally set Link expiry, then choose Create selected download link.
- Choose Copy machine download link.
Anyone holding a machine link can fetch only its file, and only while the parent link permits it. Replace download link issues a new address; Revoke download link stops one. As with share links, only the browser that created a machine link keeps its key.
Share an exact original with another workspace
Send the original to a workspace gives one generated file to another Wavemaker workspace. Its signed-in members can preview and download it. It is not a public link and does not transfer ownership.
- On a result, choose More options › Send the original to a workspace….
- Enter the Recipient workspace and, optionally, Expires at.
- Choose Share exact original.
The recipient opens it from Shared originals at /app/shares. Each share shows as Shared by this workspace or Received by this workspace, with its expiry. To stop it, choose Revoke this share, then Confirm revocation. Expiry and revocation stop access in Wavemaker; downloaded copies stay with the recipient. You can't share with your own workspace.
Sharing defaults
Settings › Sharing defaults at /app/settings/sharing, in your personal settings, sets Default link lifetime: how many days a new share link stays open unless you change it while sharing. The default is 7 days; you can choose 1 to 30. Saving it does not share anything or change existing links. The same lifetime prefills Expires at on Share exact original.
If something goes wrong
- "Sharing requires publish permission." or "Link management requires publish permission." Your role is read-only. Ask a workspace owner or admin.
- "Select an independently owned item to distribute." You can share only items your workspace owns, not items you acquired.
- "Choose a future expiry." The date you chose has passed.
- "Passcodes protect anyone-with-the-link and public links only." Switch the audience, or clear the passcode.
- "Embed parents must be exact HTTPS origins": remove any path or wildcard from the origin.
- "Original request retained. Retry it before making another link." The connection dropped after you submitted. Choose Retry original request; it sends the same request again and never creates a duplicate link.
- Unresolved link request on the Links page: this browser sent a request without hearing back. Choose Retry original request.
